My Dream Guitars!

Hello all, this weeks post is a bit of a self indulgent one, bit I thought it would be fun to write about some of my dream guitars. As a guitar teacher who works in a guitar shop, I am often asked what guitars that I don't already own would I love to play or own? So I thought that topic would make a fun blog post so here we go, 10 of my dream guitars!

Gibson RD Standard

Starting off we have a rare gem! These beauties were only in production from 1977 to 1982 with some brief reissues over the years. Their short run comes as a result of their lack of popularity at the time, but they have since developed a resurgence in popularity, with yours truly being a big fan of how they look and sound! I would love to get my hands on an RD one day, even if just to try it! However, this short run means they are hard to come by and very expensive so we shall see! The RD stands for 'Research and Development' as Gibson worked with Moog to create some unique and experimental electronics within the RD.

Fender Jagstang

If you have been reading my blogs, you will have gathered that I am a big fan of Kurt Cobain! So naturally, I would love to own the guitar he designed with Fender, by literally taking photos of a Fender Jaguar and Fender Mustang, cutting them down the middle and sticking the two halves together and handing it over to Fender! I have been fortunate enough to play one of these, but sadly, it was also very expensive! Maybe one day!

Gibson SG

Here is one that may be a bit more possible as it is a very popular and mass produced classic! My love of these guitars stems from seeing them being played by the likes of Tony Iommi, Angus Young and Jack Black. Just a rock machine! I am particularly fond of the black with gold hardware as seen above, if were to ever get my own SG, that's the one!

Epiphone Wilshire Phant-o-Matic

This boxy looking beast just screams punk rock machine to me, many may not agree but I absolutely love how it looks! From the uniquely shaped pick guard to the block inlays on the fretboard, it just has so much character! Might be a simple reason, but I just want to play this beast because I love how it looks!

Dunable R2

In all honesty, this list could have been one of each of Dunable's guitar models but that felt like a silly way to go about things! So instead I picked my favourite of the bunch, the R2. A loving homage to the previously mentioned Gibson RD but with basically unlimited customisation as they are all custom made to order! This is the big one for me, I'll be saving a long time but I will hopefully get my hands on one of these in the (hopefully) not to distant future.

Epiphone Crestwood

Much like the Wilshire Phant-o-Matic, this beautiful Epiphone is not what a lot of people expects me to be interested in guitar wise, but the pair of them just look so unique and smart in my opinion! The addition of the button tuning pegs and the rounded inlays and the Epiphone branded vibrato arm just give this guitar a really classy look! On top of that, this is the only guitar I have ever played that has mini-humbuckers! Definitely had a unique sound similar to that of a single coil but a bit warmer and cleaner to my ear!

Fender Jazzmaster

This beauty is not to dissimilar to my beloved Fender Meteora as I am a big fan of offset guitars! The thing that draws me to a Jazzmaster the most (outside of the similarities it has to the Meteora) is the massive sounding P90s they often come stock with! While not as common, I would also love to have a Bigsby vibrato arm (as seen in the picture above) on the guitar as well!

Gibson Theodore

A modern throwback from Gibson after finding old blueprints by legendary guitar designer Theodore "Ted" McCarty! The suitably named Gibson Theodore is very visually striking with it's tulip body shape and racing stripe centre! Also stocked with P90s, button tuning pegs and a wrap around bridge it has the appeal of a classic look despite being a new guitar!

Ibanez JBM27 AKA Titan

This 7 string monster is the signature model of Periphery guitarist Jake Bowen. The first thing that caught my eye was it's sleep design and matte finish. I am a big fan of Ibanez super strats and this one seems like the perfect extended range machine! Couple that with the custom designed DiMarzio pickups to handle the low end and we are really on to a winner!

Hi-Flyer Phase 4 MT

This is likely the most unusual guitar you will see on anyone's wish list, but that is part of it's allure to me! For those unaware, microtones are the notes that sit in between tradition notation as we know it in the west. This is why this guitar has extra frets slotted in to allow access to these strange and commonly unused notes! Outside of it's unique functionality, I also just feel this guitar looks really interesting and fun! What more could you want out of a tool for experimentation?

And there we have it! 10 of my dream guitars! Honestly I don't expect to have all of these guitars but it's fun to think about all the creative possibilities that these beautiful and varied musical tools can explore! What are your dream guitars? I'd love to know, I could honestly talk about guitars all day! Play loud, stay safe and I will see you all soon!
