Rock Band club is a group project with the aim to give my students as strong a start as possible in the live music world. I will be helping them form bands with one another, coaching them through putting a set of songs together, developing their song writing skills, guiding them through all little details that help a band sound as tight as possible!
Alongside this, I will be helping them gain several vital band experiences such as getting their first gig, recording in a studio, getting a pro photo shoot taken. This is so, by the end of the project, they have everything they need to take the band in what ever direction they like! Basically, the end goal is for me to say "and with that, the band is yours, be free!".
I work alongside many local creative businesses to bring this project to life, inlcuding Dundee Music Studios, Everlong Photography & Black Waves Audio and we are always open to working with more!
Mutalith are the first band I have worked with as part of this project, what started with my student's Aidan, Jay and Kirsten wanting to start a metal band, sparked this whole project!

We began by having the three students work on a cover song so they would have something to start with in the first session, in Mutalith's case it was 'Black Star' by Carcass. Guitarist Aidan very quickly suggested his friend Jamie for the bands lead vocalist who joined and was the perfect fit.

They began work on their first few songs which came together very quick, blending elements of black metal, thrash, doom and progressive metal, they very quickly found their sound.

As time passed, my bass student Kirsten was no longer able to participate due to a busy college and work schedule, which is when my student Jordan stepped in to fill the position, right around the time drums were taken up by Liam - up until this point drums were being provided by fellow music tutor Kerr Milne.

As of now, in 2024 the band now have a full set ready and have played their first show alongside local legends War Within, Kakihara and Die Already and ready for their next shows in Edinburgh and Glasgow with a recording session booked for April.
Check out their live shows booked during the course of this project!
